40 degrees centigrade and more are frequently achieved in the inland region of Portugal in midsummer. No wonder that the natives do not want to enjoy an alcohol rich, heavy wine at such temperatures. So they produce a wine which promises pleasure also fresh at these conditions: The Vinho Verde.

Its name already indicates it: The "green wine" is won from shoots which just reach a not so high sugar concentration as a lot of other wines. The shoots are trained tally so that the grapes are less exposed to the reflected heat of the floor. Early, almost still in "green" condition the grapes are reaped from the autochthonous types of vine Loureiro, Azal and Pederna.
