Santa Rita, Carmenere, Medalla Real Reserva, 2021, Valle Colchagua

Grape variety:
Carménère was exported to Chile from France formerly. After a great phylloxera epidemic in Europe this type of vine was, however, never added again in France.
Today, he only is still planted in Chile and called "Chile's national grape" by the Chileans.

Colchagua:
Marchigüe and Apalta, two select Colchagua Valley terroirs, were chosen to make this exceptional wine. Marchigüe's shallow granitic-clay soils help the grapes develop tremendous fruit expression and structure. The vines were trellised with vertically positioned shoots. The second vineyard is in the small, much-acclaimed Apalta Valley, whose special conditions such as deep granitic soils and a horseshoe shape that protects its vineyards from the cold coastal winds combine to produce high quality wines. The warm summer days in the 70-year-old vineyards are ideal for growing perfectly ripe Carménère with elegant tannins. The plantations receive water solely from the winter rains that fill the local basins.  

The wine-growing estate:
In 1880 the famous Chilean wine-growing estate Santa Rita was founded and the main wine producer is within these days in the region Alto Jahuel (Upper Maipo). Today the winemakers have resources to many different cultivation regions and therefore on different terror for the perfect wine such as Casablanca Valley - a Terroir for excellent white wines.
Splendid assessments are the recognition, that Santa Rita and their passionate winemakers are given in the wine magazines of the world again and again.
