The island of Madeira being part of Portugal is a steep rising rock formation off the Moroccan coast. In the 18th century the Dutchmen spent large quantities of Madeira wine over the sea route to the new world. They noticed that the wine did not come through the cruise only well, but the crossing the line ceremony changed it excellently in the smell and taste. The barrels begin merely a symbolic cruise today. Similar conditions which award its typical taste to the Madeira are feigned into the so-called Estufas. The old company Henriques & Henriques, once in the possession of the Portuguese royal house, is in John Cossart's possession today. The father of the ambitious brit was administrators and vintners of the enterprise for 53 yearsand then, after the death of the last Henriques which died without successors in 1978, majority owner. With 15 hectares of proprietary possession the biggest grapes producer of this island.
