In 1987 John Teeling founded the Cooley Distillery as an independent Irish enterprise and formed an alternative to the previous only producer group with that which had a monopoly until there. He bought distilleries which are rich in tradition and shut down for many years and resurrected these.
The Tyrconnell was named after a racehorse which confessed in the possession of the distiller familie Watts and 1876 as outsiders won the Queen Victoria cup.
The Tyrconnell is distilled exclusively from malted barley. The Irishmen drink their whiskey best of all with spring water at room temperature "fifty to fifty".
