The recipe of the Whiskey already dates from the year 1789. In the year 1971 Austin Nichols purchased the distillery from the Ripy family.
Wild Turkey got its name, approx.1940 after Thomas MacCarthy, an executive of the Distillery brought a private stock with 101 Proof bourbon for a wild turkey hunting trip with his friends. They liked it so much that they asked him to bring along some bourbon of this same "WildTurkey" the next year. He honoured the good taste of his friends by the fact that he made the nickname to a legendary brand name.
