The maturation method is legendary by now. During a four-month-passage the Linie Aquavit just crosses the equator twice. It has gone back for the year 1805 when the Norwegian schooner "Trondheims Prøve" with a cargo load aquavit barrels sailed to the West Indies. Five of the barrels could not be sold and reached back after a second equator crossing to Norway again. A small sensation revealed itself at the testing of the return: The aquavit liked considerably more gently, finer and more tastily than before the departure. Fluctuations of temperature and atmospheric humidity, the salty sea air, the permanent waves of the oceans and the storage in wooden barrels for a long time apparently had a definite positive influence on the quality of the aquavit.
More than 1.000 barrels line aquavit as a deck cargo mature at sea any time today. Every Linie Aquavit bottle expels details of the 4-month journey on the inside of the front label around the world as well as the departure and arrival dates. Every drink of this Aquavit brings back the memories of the cruise.
