Article: | Jack Ryan Toomevara Single Malt 10 Years Bourbon Barrel & Calvados Cask |
Country: | Ireland |
Whisk(e)y type: | Irish Single Malt Whiskey |
Age: | 10 Years |
Bottled: | April 2006 |
Barrel: | Ex-bourbon cask, Finish in Calvados casks from the renowned French Château du Breuil. |
Alcohol: | 46% |
Colour: | Gold, mellow yellow. |
Flavour: | Three shades of apple. Dry and yeasty stewed apple warmth, sour green apple gummies, and the leafier tang of apples. Beneath that, sap, cut grass, and orange cream soda which, after a little honey, cuts the grasses with the creams and turns to actual orange peel. Leafier with water. |
Taste: | Apple pie in a glass. Soft cinnamon, rich apple sauce, a light zesty tang as if those apples were unripe, a slight trace of citrus peel and enough mouth-watering juice to bind the sauces to the fruits. |
Finish: | Sandalwood edges round the lingering sauce. Dusty, dry and even a little yeasty although the sweet green apple tang from the nose still sidles past the finish. |
Number of bottles: | 3.500 |
The name "Toomevara" refers to the place of birth of Thomas Ryan (1873-1949).
