Angelo Gaja is internationally certainly the most well-known Italian wine landowner. Repeated he was honoured by "Decanter" and "Winespectator "as" Man of The Year" and no winegrower gained the "Tre Bicchieri" of the Gambero Rosso as often as him. Without him the Piedmont, particularly the Langhe, would have only half as much reputation today. Angelo Gaja is a happy mixture of wine doer and manager. No-one appears in public as eloquently as him, no-one different one in Italy can permit itself to sell its plants so expensively but no other wine-growing estate shows such a big resistance at top-quality wines either. Angelo Gaja, the father of the new top-quality wines is from the Piedmont, supported by his long-standing vintner Guido Rivella. He started to free his wines from an excessive, hard tannin freight first, made them more approachable and gave them a cunning cutting. The demanding and internationally successful wines were Gajas example from Bordeaux and California. Nevertheless the peculiarities of the Piedmont he never would like to miss in his wines, he puts on Terroir. How does the Gambero Rosso write so beautifully: "Gaja is and remains the greatest one."
