Article: González Byass Vermouth La Copa Rojo
Country: Spain
Region: Jerez
Classification: D.O. Jerez
Producer: Bodegas González Byass
Grape variety: Pedro Ximénez, Palomino Fino
Alcohol: 15.5%
Residual sugar: 141 g/l
Acid: 3.3 g/l
Characteristics: The sherry-vermouth is prepared from Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez and together with select herbs and spices. The recipe dates from the year 1896. The brand of La Copa is even older. Gonzalez Byass had had protected the name already 1884 as one of its first brands. The reprint from the 21st century is prepared to the old formula faithfully. Even the bottle label replicated the original. One discovered it next to the recipe in the old archives.
Flavour: Flavours of spices (cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg) and citrus fruits besides fine approvals of angelica (rosemary, oregano) and elegant nutty flavours which remind of mature sherries.
Taste: Supple and elegant, sharp sweet, fine notes of citrus fruits and spices (cinnamon, cloves).
Finish: Tasty aromatic with a seductive bitter note.
Drink recommendation: As well chilled apéritif, pure, with soda and/or on ice for big cocktail classics as Negroni, Manhatten, Dry Martini or for mixing of new creations.
