The Kerner shoot is a cross-breed of red Trollinger and white Riesling and was crossed by the shoot cultivator August Herold in 1929. At first it was called the white Herold, later the type of vine was renamed in Kerner after the Swabian poet J. Kerner who had lived in Weinsberg. The Kerner is a bouquet type.
