Delaforce is the name of a Huguenot family, which fled from religious persecution from France and reached Portugal over London in 1685 . George Henry Delaforce founded the port house 1868. Because of his distinctive business sense and feeling at the choice of the best qualities to owe Delaforce already climbed to the great names in the port business early. High awards at the world exhibitions 1878 and 1889 in Paris accompany the early international success of Delaforce port which was shipped already soon to all of Europe.

Delaforce is in the possession of the famous port house Real Companhia Velha since January 1st, 2008. It is the oldest and biggest port house of the world - from a royal foundation of 1756. In 2006 the Real Companhia Velha (Royal Oporto Company) celebrated its 250-year existence and is thus not only the oldest port house but this the oldest company of Portugal at all!

The grapes for port are from very steep slate and granite slopes in the upper Douro valley in the northeast of Portugal. The little yield which the shoots achieve under extreme climatic conditions there provides a single fragrance concentration in the grapes. Since 1756 (with foundation of the Real Companhia Velha) the Douro valley is the first legally protected wine cultivable area of the world.

The excellent quality of the Delaforce ports is based on three pillars to this day:
The vineyards with their narrow terraces and on average more than 40 years old shoots preferred by nature. Furthermore the closed production process at which all layers of the production are checked of the cultivation of the grapes about the harvest and vinification up to the patient storage in the time-honoured Delaforce Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia at the river mouth of the Douro. And finally the unique style of the house Delaforce which is appreciated for experts as the perfect connection by traditional values and up-to-date taste picture.
