Château du Domaine de l'Eglise already is mentioned in the „Vieux Papiers du Libournais“ from the year 1589 and with that the probably oldest wine-growing estate on the famous plateau of Pomerol.  Original in the church possession, the Domaine de l'Eglise, the church domain, was a hospice led of monks of the ‚Ordre des Chevaliers de l'Hôpital de Saint Jean de Jérusalem'. A great Maltese cross on the gate was the sign for it at that time. The property was secularized in the 18th century. Domaine de l'Eglise lies just next to the church of Pomerol, not far from Petrus. Today, the Maltese cross and the church in the middle still can be found on the label and the gate to the chateau.
