In the year 1958 Wyndham Hill Smith, the owner of Yalumba, purchased Oxford Landing. He recognized the great potential of this area along the Murray River, to plant shoots there. In the middle of the 19th century Oxford Landing was a cattle watering place of the sheep on the long journey of the northern grazing land to the market of Adelaide Meanwhile the wine-growing estate has 250 hectares of shoots at its disposal. Cabernet Sauvignon with 80 hectares of the main type of vine is followed by Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. Decisive for the quality of the reading good is the harvest at night to make use of the cooler temperatures ruling. To this wine doer Hugh Reimers: "There is no doubt that the key is the work in the vineyard to the high quality of the wine. If the grapes are not all right in the vineyard, the wine cannot taste nice just like it shall either."
